Aquariums have become living art pieces and eye-catching bits of furniture which supply a spectacular display in any office or home. For those with little space, tower aquariums are the best solution. These stately aquarium towers rise high and take up minimal floor space. They can be placed in a corner or maybe right in the centre to make a dazzling centrepiece. Due to their height they provide a brilliant viewing area and light illuminates the full length of the fish tank tower for a magnificent show of your fish.
With the employment of versatile acrylic, styles do not need to be traditional but come in an extensive range of shapes to suit individual taste and room space. These shapes include triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon and octagonal aquarium towers.
They also come in a selection of colours to suit dcor and some manufacturers provide alternative finishes to stands and headers such as marble, wood, glass and silver. The highest tower aquariums reach up to seven feet while the lowest are around 5 and a half feet. Bases are commonly found in the dimensions of 16″x16″, 14″x14″ and 12″x12″. Capacities customarily change between 20 and 50 five gallons. The bigger tower fish tanks cost over $1000 while the littlest versions cost $500 and more.
Tower aquariums are far more appropriate as freshwater aquariums than saltwater fish tanks as saltwater aquarium fish will survive best in long, wide tanks. It is also best to house small fish as, although there may be a lot of water in the column aquarium, fish have a tendency to swim horizontally not vertically and thus the narrow width is more accommodating to little freshwater fish.
Some makers provide complete system fish tanks and aquariums which come with all of the mandatory aquarium supplies. Otherwise you can get the appropriate apparatus which may include high-capacity filter, aquarium lighting, extension cord, aquarium plants, under-gravel purification, air pump and heater if stocking a tropical freshwater tank. A powerful air pump is particularly important to ensure good vertical circulation and aeration of water. Because of the height of aquarium towers, reaching down to the bottom of the tank for cleaning purposes requires you to purchase a long handle brush or cleaning magnet.
