No Bark Collar – Do Static Collars Really Harm Your Dog?

There are definite solutions to dog with barking problems. You can always shop for a good no bark dog collar and observe as your dog gets used to the interruption to its barking spree. The collar sends out annoying stimulations whenever your dog barks – in time the annoyance will not be something the dog looks forward to. Still, even though static collars have not been conclusively proven to be of definite harm to any dog, there are dog owners who may not want a shocking experience for their pets.

Electrical shocks and how it can affect your dog

The shock produced by a static collar is a mechanism no different from two others – spray and sound; these are the two other types of stimulus a no bark collar releases. Only dogs can hear the tone released by a sound collar – it’s too high up the range of normal human hearing. In some studies, the effectiveness of all three types have been compared; the result is that the sound type seem to lag behind the static and spray type, which are tied for effectiveness.

There are various videos only showing people allowing themselves to get shocked by collars, to supposedly demonstrate the pain. These are often casually filmed and usually features some family members holding on to a shock collar that’s part of an invisible fence. The collar goes off when they walk outside the perimeter. They yell is shock, but human reaction could be exaggerated.

The level of voltage a static collar actually releases, and this info is hard for some pet owners to believe, is no more shocking that the static one feels after touching the side of a refrigerator and getting a buzz.

The level of shock stimulation can be adjusted

Static collars usually have an adjustment feature – you can increase or decrease the stimulation level as needed. The default setting is calibrated to be the lowest, for safety reasons. Upon the dog owner’s observation, if the dog has gotten used to and is barking despite the level of shock, the stimulation level is to be increased. It would still take some vigilance and observation after that, you have to see what settings can efficiently stop the dog from barking. Don’t worry because the buzz stops as soon as the dog stops barking.

The spray type collar as a good alternative to static shocks

The worry behind electrocuting your pet is valid – no one wants to do that – but the level of current used by static collar is negligible, actually. You could always choose another kind of collar if you’re not been convinced of the foregoing. You can still choose a no bark collar that does not use a static stimulation. Product choice means competition and that’s good. The spray or Citronella type, by the way, is just as good as the static type.
